Instructions
Preheat the air fryer and prep
- First up, preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees F and set the cooking time to run for a total of 20 minutes.
- While the air fryer preheats, chop the onion and bell peppers, then mince the garlic. Add the hash browns, pepper, garlic, and spices into a bowl with the frozen hash browns and mix until completely combined.
Make a foil pouch
- To prevent the hash browns from sinking from one basket into the bottom basket and burning, you might want to make a foil pouch. To do this, take a rectangle piece of foil about 1.5x the length of the inside basket and fold the sides up to make little walls. The pouch should fit into the basket while leaving excess room on the sides for hot air to circulate.
- When you have a rectangular walled pouch, oil the bottom of the foil, and you’re ready for the next step.
Air fry the hash browns
- Place the hash browns in a single layer in your foil pouch. Pat it all down into an even layer no more than 3/4-inch thick, so the potatoes will heat evenly during the cooking process.
- Depending on how much you want to make, you might need to do this in batches.
- Let the air fryer cook for 10-12 minutes before taking a peek under the hood. During this cook time, they’ll start to transition from uncooked potatoes to cooked hash browns. Another 3-5 minutes and you’ll have fully cooked, crispy hash browns ready for the breakfast table.
Notes
The total cook time may vary depending on your individual unit. Keep an eye on the hash browns and pull them out when they begin to brown around the edges.
