It’s that time of year when holiday cookie trays, festive holiday drinks, and all things happy and delightful make their appearance. And today, we’ve got a classic loved by young and old alike: white chocolate-covered pretzel rods!

This is an easy recipe that uses white chocolate ganache instead of melted white chocolate to dip the rods in. Making this one switch produces chocolate-dipped rods with chocolate that stays softer and breaks with the rod instead of breaking off and falling apart when eaten.

Ingredients Needed to Make White Chocolate Pretzels

pretzel rods, sprinkles, and white chocolate ganache
  • Pretzel Rods: The large, long pretzel sticks you can find during the holidays are perfect for this project. If you can’t find those, pretzel twists can also work.
  • White Chocolate Ganache: For this recipe, we’ll use a ganache made with white chocolate chips, heavy cream, and a touch of butter.
  • Toppings: Plan on dusting the rods with holiday sprinkles, crushed candy canes, or crushed peppermint candy pieces.

Equipment Needed In the Kitchen

  • Microwave-Safe Bowl: A microwave-safe bowl is essential for your ganache. If you made the ganache ahead of time and you need to reheat it for this project, you’ll want to make sure it’s in a heatproof glass bowl.
  • Spoon: A large soup spoon is perfect for spooning the ganache over the pretzel rods.
  • Small Bowl: You’ll want a small bowl to catch excess sprinkles and chocolate when you decorate the rods.
  • Baking Sheet: A baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper is perfect for resting the rods on while they cool

This project comes together quickly, so pull out that ganache and let’s get going!

Make the ganache

First up, make a batch of this super easy white chocolate ganache!

Once you made the ganache, move on to the next step.

Coat and decorate the rods

Take all of the pretzel rods out of the bowl and set any that are broken to the side. You’ll do those last with any remaining chocolate.

Now, take one rod and dip it into the melted chocolate ganache. Spoon ganache over half of the rod, turning the rod as you go to coat it.

Shake the rod with a downward motion to remove excess chocolate ganache from the rod.

Move the rod to an empty bowl. Hold the rod with one hand and sprinkle the candy decoration on the chocolate while turning the rod to coat all sides.

Ganache note: If the ganache is too warm to coat your pretzels adequately, let it sit to solidify until it reaches the desired consistency. Dip pretzel rods a second time and repeat the process. If it gets too hard, warm it in the microwave in 5-second intervals until it’s just right.

Let cool and harden

Once a rod is dipped and dusted, lay it down on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool. Let it sit at room temperature for 1-2 hours or until the chocolate sets.

Enjoy your salty treat! Wrap them up in groups of 5-7 in cellophane baggies tied with a ribbon, and proudly give your white chocolate-dipped pretzels to friends and family as edible holiday gifts.

Variations on White Chocolate Pretzels

These pretzel rods can be varied in a bunch of ways! Here are some of our favorites.

Milk Chocolate Dipped: Instead of a white chocolate ganache, use the ganache recipe and swap out white chocolate for milk chocolate.

Dark Chocolate Dipped: Dark chocolate is the best chocolate of all, if you ask us. Use the ganache recipe and swap white for dark chocolate and follow there rest. Sooo delicious.

Pretzel Minis: No pretzel rods? No problem. Use mini pretzels instead. Dip the entire pretzel into the ganache to coat it. Fish it out with a fork, sprinkle holiday sprinkles over it, then place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet to harden.

Vary the toppings: For any chocolate-dipped pretzels recipe you choose, change up the toppings to match your mood. Crush peppermints or candy canes for white chocolate peppermint pretzels. Melt dark chocolate to contrast with the white ganache and drizzle it over the ganache-coated rods. Dust the rods with cinnamon, crushed graham crackers, or holiday sprinkles. The sky is the limit!

White Chocolate Pretzels: Tips, Tricks, and FAQs

How do I store extra pretzel rods?

Place them in an airtight container for 2-3 days. You can also freeze them in a freezer bag for up to a month! Just thaw before eating.

I want to give these as a gift. How should I present them?

Place 5-7 in a large cellophane bag chocolate-side down. Tie the baggie with ribbon or twine tightly toward the top of the rods with just a piece of the rod sticking out, if need be.
